Mission and Goals of the Church of God

This
page covers a brief overview of our mission and goals in this Laodicean era of God’s Church. People sometimes ask what
our mission or purpose is. The answer to that is covered throughout this website in the various articles and audio messages.
However, recently (after several years of consideration), I wrote an official Statement of Beliefs, as well as another official
document entitled “Constitution and By-Laws” of the Church
of God.
Both
of these documents are patterned after the 1948 Radio Church of God’s Statement of Beliefs and Constitution and By-Laws
(for the Philadelphia era of God’s Church). These were
the same documents adopted (after some slight modification) by the Worldwide Church of God in 1968 when Mr. Armstrong changed
the name from Radio Church of God (by amendment to the Radio Church of God’s Articles of Incorporation) to the Worldwide
Church of God.
In
adopting our Statement of Beliefs and Constitution and By-Laws, I also made some slight modifications or updates for our versions.
For example, some of the work that God commissioned the Church (specifically Mr. Armstrong) to do is now finished and part
of Church history. However some of the work is still being done, which consists primarily of a warning work, but also preparing
the “Bride” or Church for the return of Jesus Christ. This is reflected in both our Statement of Beliefs and Constitution
and By-Laws.
Our
Statement of Beliefs is almost the exact same as the 1948 version, with the exception of point #18 which has been updated
to show where we are in prophecy and Church history, and I added point #’s 21, 22, 23 and 24.
Our
Constitution and By-Laws have been updated in a similar way, with certain sections of the 1948 version deleted (such as the
establishment of Ambassador College
for example).
Both
of these documents will show an overview of what we believe and what our mission is. There are links to both documents below.
You are welcome to download or view both of these. Also posted below these two documents, are the 1948 Radio Church of God’s
two documents. You may use these for comparison if you desire to do so.
Although
not all of our beliefs (i.e. doctrines and truths of the Church
of God) are covered in these two documents, they give a general guideline
or the thrust of what our mission and goals are. The articles and messages on this website serve to fill in the rest of the
“details”.
I
hope this information will be helpful as an introduction to those sincerely searching for the truth of God and the “faith
which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3).
